I FOUND YOUR DOG TODAY.

She must have been pretty once. I bet  her fur was soft  to touch.

I can just picture her as a puppy. Little black wet nose.

A tail that seemed to wag her  whole body at the sight of you.

Big brown eyes  filled with unconditional   absolute love for you.

I wish I had someone that loved me that much, no questions asked.

She probably never  minded that you came home in a grouchy mood.

I bet she just ignored your crabbiness. She knew that her exuberance would cheer you up

In no time at all.

She was so confident that she ignored your harsh words. NO! Get DOWN! Go AWAY!...She loved

You anyway.

It was not her fault you did not  train her  at the local kennel  club classes.

You were too busy watching CSI re-runs.

I FOUND YOUR  DOG TODAY.

I bet she was loyal to you.. No doubt she guarded your house with diligence, checking out each visitor with cautious indignation.

How DARE they come to a house she was guarding!

They had better be on their best behavior.

No stealing the silverware while she was on duty!

I FOUND YOUR DOG TODAY.

I bet she was great with the kids. I can just picture her chasing a ball  untiringly for your little boy.

Always faithfully bringing it back to him, resisting the urge to  keep it for her own pleasure.

I can just picture the two of them, snuggled up at night, she giving him one last wet kiss in the ear

before he settled down to dream little boy dreams.

I FOUND YOUR DOG TODAY.

She was at the pound. I KNOW it’s suppose to be called an “animal  shelter” but I call it the POUND….because that’s what her little heart was doing….Pounding. And her shelter was only temporary.

She wasn’t going anywhere. She was scared to death. It was noisy there .

They were all frightened, all of them, but especially she. She wanted to know why you left her there?

Where was her “forever “ home?

Where was her warm bed next to her little boy? This concrete floor is cold and it is hard.

Hadn’t she served you faithfully? Did she really ask so much in return?

Whatever the reason…she is safe and free  now.

The man  took her out to a little building, behind the shelter.

She went to sleep  quietly while  he  gently stroked her head and whispered

in a tone only she could her. I’m sorry. It’s ok. I’m sorry.

I WISH SHE HAD BEEN MY DOG.

Note- I wrote this after seeing so many people treat their animals like a disposable item. Use them  then throw them away. New baby? No problem, dump the dog. Dump the dog you’ve had for years. I believe in  responsible pet ownership. Please spay/neuter your dog.

Take your dog to the local kennel club for training classes. There is one in almost every city in America.

Please…please…don’t  let me find your dog again….
